7 CT Pizza Places a Slice Above The Rest
With National Pizza Day being February 9th we decided there was no better time than now to list off the best seven places to get pizza from the best state for pizza in the country, Connecticut. With that being said, we know we're already ruffling some people's feathers. That's ok, be bold with your pizza choices. Don't agree with our list? Let us know on social media. The list below is in no specific order, with at being said, let's jump into it.
The Original Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana
We all knew Pepe's in New Haven would make the list. If you've been making pizza since 1925 you've mastered the art. There's too many great pizzas on the menu to list, so just go try them yourself. Chances are you've already done just that though. The wait is worth it. Trust us.
For anyone who didn't like our first pick that's because they're probably a fan of Sally's located just down the street from Pepe's in New Haven. Founded in 1938, Sally's has been serving up their thin crust pizza to the masses who just can't get enough of the charred edges. Another place that will most likely come with a wait which is just a small sacrifice for the pizza waiting at the end of the line.
Krust Pizza Bar
Krust Pizza Bar located on Main Street in Middletown brings a young twist to the Connecticut pizza scene. The wood-fired pizza, inspired from the classic pizzas of the past come with a creative, but tasty twist. On top of the great pizzas you can find the bar with countless drinks including bourbons and craft beers.
In 1935 a post-Prohibition tavern named Colony Grill opened in Stamford, Connecticut. Since then, Colony Grill is now famous for what is its only menu offering: a one-of-a-kind, thin-crust pizza that is best served with the signature “hot oil” topping. Check it out for yourself.
Otto Pizza in Chester prides itself on serving wood fire pizzas seven days a week to the local neighborhood and word on the streets is that the neighbors aren't complaining. Otto Pizza keeps it simple, deciding to serve no-nonsense wood fired pizza, simple salads and a few other specialty dishes. Sometimes simple is best.
Located in Danbury, Stanziato's serves small pies that are prepared with farm-to-table ingredients in an Italian-made wood-fired oven. The 12" pies are perfect to split with someone or just to eat the whole thing yourself.
We finish the list back where we started, New Haven. Modern Apizza has been serving up pies in the same location since 1934. After many years in business and many awards later, Modern Apizza is still going strong and has no plan of stopping anytime soon.
